Wastewater treatment plant effluent inputs influence the temporal variability of nutrient uptake in an intermittent stream

چکیده

Abstract Wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluents alter water chemistry and in-stream nutrient uptake rates of receiving freshwaters, thus changing the magnitude fate nutrients exported. In Mediterranean regions, dilution capacity streams can vary strongly over time due to seasonal occurrence floods droughts, causing temporal variability uptake. We assessed patterns controlling factors net in an intermittent stream WWTP effluent inputs. compiled longitudinal concentration profiles ambient dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) along a 800 m reach on 47 sampling dates between 2001 2017, encompassing wide range hydrological conditions. estimated stream. 72% dates, high ammonium co-occurred with releases either nitrate or nitrite. This pattern suggests that has nitrification capacity. Conversely, 75% did not show any SRP concentration, suggesting release processes for this element were counterbalanced both occurred at very low rates. Finally, was when had (< 40%) high. Overall, we demonstrate consideration stream’s is imperative management freshwaters guarantee adequate inputs avoid saturation under flow conditions urban landscapes.

Uptake of Some Elements with Aquatic Plants Exposed to the Effluent of Wastewater Treatment Plant

In this study, in the removal of macro (P, S, Na, K, Ca, Mg) and micro (Sb, Ba, Co, Cu, Fe, Pb, Mn, Hg, Mo, Se, Ag, Zn) elements in the effluent of Elazig Wastewater Treatment Plant, the efficiency of Lemna minor L. and Lemna gibba L. has been studied comparatively. For this aim, fronds of these plants have been adapted to the effluent of the treatment plant that feeds pilot scale reactors. The...

Nutrient Elimination from Effluent of Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Applying Horizontal Roughing Filter

High levels of turbidity and suspended solids are the major disadvantages of aerated lagoons. Aerated lagoon effluent filtration was investigated by Horizontal Roughing Filter (HRF). Removal efficiencies were determined by examining total phosphorus (TP) and total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN) from HRF influent and effluent, simultaneously. HRF pilot system located on effluent pump station of Qom was...

Pharmaceuticals in Wastewater Treatment Plant Effluent Waters

Pharmaceuticals are being used at an increasing rate, and end up in wastewater through excretion and disposal. They also end up in the effluent water of wastewater treatment plants because they are not specifically designed for pharmaceutical removal. Several studies suggest diverse negative effects on aquatic life that are exposed to these trace amounts of pharmaceuticals in their habitats. Th...
